The Albtelecom Data Center (ADT) is a project for Albtelecom Company, located in the suburban area in Tirana, an area characterized by dull, non-explicit urban blocks. The design for ADT presents itself as an autonomous, yet dynamic object fitting within the urban fabric. The architectural solution gives references vastly to its technical and marketing requirements by the company.
Conceived as data collector, the building is primarily conceptualized as a closed box. The box is divided into three levels to give floor to the public access, with the bottom and the top levels conserved for the technical functions. Thus, the ground level rectangular box functions for the administration and the public meeting. The other two levels, in the first floor and in the underground floor, function for the data archiving. The perimeter of each level is double skinned, in order to create a buffer area, which in the public floor acts as a terrace, and the in the technical floor functions as a protective spatial membrane.
The outskirt of the elevated box is embraced by a structure attached to the façade. The structure is an interpretation of the digital identity of the building. It is the abstraction of the pixel, which in a modular system performs as a shading device system to the buffer area of the technical floor.
